#IndyOfTheWeek No.17 = Ceylon Ceylon

October 10, 2018

#IndyOfTheWeek is The In A Box Project's way of celebrating independent music. Throughout the year, we pick out indy artists that we love. Maybe because their music blows us away. It might just be because they're different. Either way, they will be worthy.

Ceylon Ceylon are a North London based duo who were drawn together by their common use of music and creation as an escape from daily life. Raised on Motown cassettes and 30 seconds iTunes previews, this has formed the foundation from which Ceylon Ceylon have grown musically. The pair met working as a house band in West London, but only formed after fate reunited them at a gig. They now create a fresh sounding blend of soul, world & electronic.

Colourful sound design, in combination with real instruments and samples, creates a powerful atmosphere throughout Ceylon Ceylon's music, giving unique pop sensibility. The variation sewn into Ceylon Ceylon's songwriting makes for incredibly interesting records, that weave in and out of dulled down, tropical breakdowns and big horn solos. Both Serendipity and Havass feature vocals by the brilliant Katie Addy.
