#IndyOfTheWeek is The In A Box Project's way of celebrating independent music. Every week we will be picking out an indy artist that we love. It may be because their music blows us away. It might just be because they're different. Either way, they will be worthy.
Hailing from Gold Coast, Australia, Noella Nix has racked up an impressive list of achievements in her short career so far. A truly independent artist, Nix is a self-managed workaholic who has sought out large-scale exposure all on her own. A great example of how talent and work ethic can earn success in the music industry, #IndyOfTheWeek No.10 is all yours, Noella.
We love the variety to Nix's music. Arguably her most successful track to date, Bye Bye, is an upbeat pop smash with future bass influences. This contrasts her latest release, Ain't Never, a downtempo r&b track with shimmering hi-hats and raw, seductive vocal hooks. There is a powerful emotion that remains consistent in all Nix's songs however, which along with her unique vocal tone, provides coherence and sonic identity. It's easy to see why Nix has attracted support from big UK tastemakers such as Huw Stephens (Radio 1) and Peter Robinson (Popjustice).
